Bhutan Travel Service established
Our founder, Marie Brown, is appointed Regional Manager of the Bhutan Travel Service (NY, NY) the first and only Tourist Office outside of Bhutan approved by the Royal Kingdom‘s Organization of National Tourism Promotion to exclusively operate and handle all U.S.-booked inbound tours to the Kingdom of Bhutan.
1981
Inaugural whitewater river descent arranged by Bhutan Travel
The kingdom’s first whitewater rafting expedition was comprised of key members Wick Walker (international whitewater world championship 1965, ’67, ’71 and 1972 founder of U.S. Olympic whitewater paddling team), Eric Evans (winner of 9 out of 10 U.S. titles through 1978), and Jamie McEwan (Olympic Bronze medalist 1972).

Bhutan Travel, Inc. officially incorporated
Official paperwork for certificate of incorporation filed. The private travel agency Bhutan Travel, Inc. is formed.
1988
NY Times, LA Times, and Travel Agent Magazine recommend Bhutan Travel
1991
Library of Congress cites Bhutan Travel as expert
Bhutan Travel contributes expert content to the “Nepal and Bhutan Area Handbook“, part of the Country Study Series, a resource guide of aggregate knowledge on a particular region or country prepared by the Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress under sponsorship from the Department of the Army.

Travel Interlink & Bhutan Travel are united
Longtime business partner and friend Mukesh Gupta (owner, Travel Interlink, Calif.) acquires Bhutan Travel and in collaboration with the two companies now offers destinations to Bhutan and Beyond.

The Royal Parliament of Bhutan and the Association of Bhutanese Tour Operators (ABTO) recognize decades of high quality tourism services provided by Bhutan Travel and look forward to continued partnerships with us.

US Patent & Trademark Office awards registered trademark
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) recognizes and awards us trademark protection for the exclusive use of “Bhutan Travel” as a registered service mark for providing high quality travel arrangements to Bhutan since 1987. (USPTO serial #85205483)
